So why don't we coach in the more traditional ways?
- Dog Training has changed enormously for the better over the last 25 -30 years. The days of Sit, Sit ,Sit!! Thankfully have in the large disappeared. Science has shown that in a number of ways dogs learn in a similar way to humans. Coaching dogs should be fun and interactive and positive at both ends of the lead.
- At Ferring Dog Training we coach according to the emotional needs and character of your dog. No one dog is the same , what works for one may not work for another
- We specialise assisting those dogs where the more traditional style of dog training i.e classes in a field or hall may not be the best option for them. Such dogs are often referred to as 'reactive'. We prefer to simply refer to them as dogs... no label.
- Emotions drive behaviour.
- Often the issues that you may be recognising and experiencing with your dog are due to the unseen factors such as fear, anxiety, frustration, incorrect exercising, learned experiences, pain, or even diet. Traditional "obedience " training will do little to help these dogs to improve . One could argue that it could increase the unwanted behaviour.
- We want to identify the emotion(s) not simply the signs. If we meet the dogs' needs we can change their behaviour.
